adding my two cents to the pile of change left on Art Basel miami

So it's Monday... i am still fighting the remnants of fatigue left by the four day whirlwind that is Miami Art Basel. Overall i will say I had a great time.... in years past i would go to the big show at the convention center and 1 or two openings/events. This year I reside myself to go as hard as possible in the afternoons and nights, while continuing to be an active and contributing member of the workforce at my day job..... what a mistake.. lol

With the previous said and done.. three nods, three cheers, and a tip of the hat go to the organizers, city officials, police, artists, and all others that took part in this mega cultural marathon. With as many people that where in miami from north miami to coral gables... all things ran smoothly.

bellow are the shows and event i saw/ attended in no particular order:

AquaMiami
Mutiversal art show
Graffiti Gone Global by SushiSamba
Art show @ O.H.W.O.W
Eat your art out by MSG
Charcoal Gallery New Brow show
Scope Miami
Foci Gallery
Art Basel big show @ the convention center
Imaginary Friends
Foci Gallery show
Transit Lounge Party
Mural Park featuring public works
Art Miami
Artcenter of Florida's new brow show
First Flight Group Graffiti wall off of sw 7th ave and 34th

all were great.... the stand outs would have to be AquaMiami and the Scope miami show... they by far where hands down the two best shows of the weekend.

side notes I actually met artists el Mac & Retna while they were doing an amazing mammoth sized mural just off of 195 and I95... they are really some laid back super cool guys. I also met Mear one at the Scope show.... he has gotta be one of the most humble human being I've met in my life... I was truly impressed and honored. Above are some pictures from the weekend.... enjoy!

During Art Basel Miami Beach / December 4 – 6, 2009

Graffiti Gone Global, presented by SUSHISAMBA, will take place December 4-6th , 2009 during Art Basel Miami Beach. Curated by James and Karla Murray, authors of best-selling titles Store Front-The Disappearing Face of New York, Miami Graffiti, Broken Windows and Burning New York, the exhibition will feature a selection of work from today’s top street artists. This groundbreaking exhibition, set to take place in a 4,000 square foot venue in the Midtown Arts District, will be the largest of its kind in Miami. The opening VIP preview will take place on Thursday, December 3, 2009 from 7 PM to 9 PM at 3252 NE 1st Ave, Suite 101, Miami, FL 33127.

Reaching beyond the typical white walls of an art fair, SUSHISAMBA has commissioned Miami-based architect HOX (Douglas Hoekzema) to design a sprawling, Brazilian-inspired favela structure for Graffiti Gone Global. HOX’s exhibition design consists of interlocking components of wood and steel that may be detached and sold as separate units, some of which will bear a signature graffiti piece. In addition, custom furniture designed by the several of the participating artists will be available for purchase.

Balloon Blamed For Wynwood Art Gallery Fire
Fire Causes $100,000 Worth Of Damage

POSTED: Tuesday, December 11, 2007
MIAMI -- An advertising balloon tied to a Wynwood art gallery is being blamed for causing a morning blaze that destroyed about $100,000 worth of artwork.

The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. Monday at the Harold Golen Gallery at 2921 NW Sixth Ave.

Fire investigators said a large advertising balloon secured to the gallery for Art Basel might have cause an electrical fire.

The balloon was tied to the weather head outside the building, where the power comes into the gallery. Investigators said friction caused by the balloon bobbing around in the sky likely sparked the blaze.

"We have been concerned about the balloon because it has come close to the houses," said Beatrice Pantoja, who lives nearby.

Gallery owner Harold Golen told Local 10 he received a call from the alarm company early Monday morning alerting him to the fire.

Golen did not want to go on camera, but he told Local 10's Kellie Butler he has about 100 paintings inside the gallery from Art Basel week. He called the paintings pop surrealism art created by Ron English and Skotolen.

No one was hurt.

When I spoke to the editor he told me that he has never had such a response for an artist that was being considered.

Above is the article as well as the cover of the Mag. you can pick it up on stands throughout West Palm, Broward, and Dade county. Thanks for the support!

Car that gets 240 miles to the gallon

A one-liter car? This moniker describes a car that uses one liter of fuel—about a quarter of a gallon—to propel a car for 100 kilometers, or 62 miles. The one-liter car’s fuel economy translates to almost 240 mpg, and VW has had such a car in its sights for some time now. In 2002, outgoing VW CEO Ferdinand Piëch, now head of the company’s supervisory board, drove a cigar-shaped prototype from VW headquarters in Wolfsburg to a shareholders’ meeting in Hamburg.

Now the idea of the one-liter car has been resurrected. VW’s biggest news at the Frankfurt auto show was the L1 concept, a prototype that "is close to production" and "will be developed," the company says. Three ingredients were needed to make it happen: a supremely efficient powertrain, great aerodynamics, and lightweight engineering.

As to the powertrain, VW has opted for a two-cylinder, 39-hp turbo-diesel engine combined with a 14-hp electric motor. There is a stop/start system and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The L1 can reach 100 mph, but fuel economy at that speed drops to a shameful 1.38 liters per 100 kilometers, or 170 mpg.

The front-wheel-drive L1’s aerodynamics are optimized by the two-seat layout with the occupants sitting in a row. The result is a car that is relatively long, quite low, and extremely slim. The monocoque and body is made of carbon fiber, and total weight of the L1 is a mere 838 pounds. We think that the seating configuration will likely be changed as development progresses; two people sitting behind each other is too unusual for prospective buyers.

Even so, the L1 looks refined and close to series production, which couldn’t be said of the 2002 concept. It could be on the market as soon as 2013, Volkswagen sources tell us. The L1 may seem ironic to those who remember that VW is also responsible for Bugatti, which makes the fastest production car in the world, the Bugatti Veyron, and which just unveiled the W-16 Galibier sedan concept. But if you think about the styles of both Piëch and current VW chairman Martin Winterkorn, this contradiction seems logical: These guys both tend to go to extremes. And we submit that the Volkswagen L1 is a more significant step in saving resources than are heavy gasoline-electric hybrids.

the machine girl - mega cheesy -mega awesome!

So I just checked this movie out and I must say it's a masterpiece of corny, cheesy, gory, violence, action, and comedy all wrapped up in one. Shot in a style that shares the same vein as films like Shoot em up, Planet Terror, The Troma Ville films, and other B-rated movies such as The Ice cream Man (no connection to the Master P film), and Killer Clowns From Outerspace... the the film takes you on a ride as lead character Ami Hyuga does battle with schoolmates, their parents, and a local Yakuza family all in the name of vengence for the murder of her bullied brother.

Definitely geared to those that don't wanna overthink a movie and just have fun. Check out the trailer below (don't worry the dvd also has an english option for those that don't wanna read subtitles):

Anthony Lister - Dope artist

Lister's work suggest influences from a number of areas and genres, including street art, expressionism, pop art, and contemporary drug culture. It often deals with subject matter from popular culture, reflecting the less glamorous aspects. He occasionally draws from television and such themes as the "misguided role models" that result. He has said that "Australians are raised by Americans on TV" and also that "TV is the contemporary mode of meditation". Lister's own children have had a profound impact on the way he creates art; he has been inspired by "watching what [his] own children are watching on tv" and "what they're bombarded with". He has often stated that he is not trying to make a statement with his work but to reflect the world around him.

He often has recurring themes in his art but probably most famous for his Monkey (Chi-Chi)& Superhero paintings
